Volunteering

Are you looking for a new challenge in 2021? If so, then please consider volunteering for Friends of the Yeatman Hospital. We are looking to appoint new volunteers with a range of different skills and interests.

Please note that all of the opportunities are helping the Friends of the Yeatman Hospital and are not the same as a Yeatman Hospital Volunteer. Currently there are no vacancies for Yeatman Hospital Volunteers. Please check vacancies with Mrs June McCourt, Pa for Matron, on June.mccourt@nhs.net

Can you spare a few hours a week working behind the scenes? The Friends need Admin Support to assist with the smooth running of the charity, promoting our purpose and values.

This will include working closely with the Administrator

  • Acting as a point of contact for incoming enquiries
  • Maintaining accurate membership records in the database.
  • Processing applications for new Friends.
  • Maintaining “hard copy” membership files in the Friends Office.
  • Assisting with the distribution of Newsletters to Friends.
  • Processing donations received from Collectors or through the post.
  • Photocopying and filing appropriate documents as needed.

It is important to have excellent communications skills and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office. Experience with Access would be an advantage but not essential.

Please contact Mrs Linsley Withers, Friends Administrator, at admin@friendsoftheyeatman.org.uk to discuss this opportunity in greater detail.

We depend on Collectors to represent the Friends in the local community. They deliver Newsletters and collect annual donations from Friends in a predetermined area, usually their own neighbourhood. They often encourage others to become new Friends.

Historically our Annual Donation Drive starts in the Spring with a Party for our Collectors. The Collectors pick up their packs and in their own time deliver the contents. Depending on the size of the area this doesn’t usually take long. Sometimes Collectors need to visit an address several times to meet the Friend and ask for their donation. Once they have finished their round, they return their completed packs with the money they have collected

We are currently looking for Collectors in the following areas:

  • Bagber
  • Charlton Horethorne
  • Hilfield, Hermitage, Holnest and Middlemarsh
  • Holwell
  • Lillington and Beer Hackett
  • Lydlinch
  • Marnhull
  • Milborne Port
  • North Wootton
  • Stalbridge and Stalbridge Weston

Sherborne:

  • Barton Gardens
  • Castle Road

If you would like to become a Collector, please contact Ms Rebecca Tillin, Trustee for Friendship, on rjtillin1879@hotmail.co.uk

Your parties are the talk of the town and everyone wants an invitation. Can you help the Friends plan and execute special events? Mrs Elizabeth Turnbull on elizabethturnbull70@btinternet.com would love some help with this important area.

The Friends hold several events annually and need individuals to help publicise these events in the local community. Our Poster Helpers receive either hard copies or an electronic copy of posters advertising upcoming special events or fundraisers. They have pre-determined places to put their posters which have been previously agreed with local businesses and locations.

Can you put up a Friend’s poster to spread the word? Please contact Mrs Elizabeth Turnbull on elizabethturnbull70@btinerent.com

If you are unable to commit to volunteering often, then please consider becoming a Casual Helper.

At the Friends we rely on you to help us with a variety of activities including

  • Car Boot Sales where we need individuals to help marshal cars, collect entrance fees and serve teas / coffees and our famous bacon butties
  • Assisting us with Special Events where you could decorate the venue, welcome guests, serve at a cash bar or help tidy up
  • Holding collecting buckets at public events to raise not only valuable donations but awareness of the work of the Friends

If this interests you – then please contact Mrs Elizabeth Turnbull on elizabethturnbull70@btinernet.com

Closet Geek? Love spending time on your computer? The Friends could use your help. Our beloved Webmaster and Computer Programmer is stepping down due to ill-health and we need volunteers to assist us with both our Website and IT support of our Access database. (We appreciate the skills needed for both areas are very different and are therefore several volunteers are needed to fulfil these important roles.)

Please contact Mrs Linsley Withers, Friend’s Administrator, at admin@friendsoftheyeatman.org.uk  to discuss these key positions.

If you would like to become a volunteer – please complete the application form below.
